I have got a quick dinner idea for those of you who may have a small 2-person family like me, or even a bigger family who needs a quick on-the-go meal.
Look in your grocery store’s bakery the next time you are in there at the bread section. Search for Tandoorni Naan. I found mine in Walmart, and it’s in a clear package with purple on the bottom. It is a flat bread that looks like pizza crust. It’ll be near the bread that Walmart makes.
What I bought comes in a 2-pack, and they are pretty big. They are delicious. They make great flatbread melts.
Each member of your family can customize these however they want but here’s what we do:
- Spray each with non-stick cooking spray or a little bit of olive oil…not much. Don’t get them too wet or soggy.
- Sprinkle a touch of garlic powder on them, or rub them with a garlic clove just for a little hint of garlic.
- Sprinkle with your favorite shredded cheese. I use pizzeria blend, my husband uses a mix of mozzarella and cheddar (fat free, and it’s GOOD!).
- Shred a little bit of your favorite deli meat around on them. I used buffalo chicken from the deli, and barely used a whole slice. It’s a very frugal way to use deli meat because you don’t need much at all.
- Stick it in the oven or toaster oven til you get your desired browning of the cheese. The Tandoori naan is already cooked so it doesn’t take long.
The Tandoori Naan costs $2.50 for 2 at Walmart, and we don’t use much cheese. We usually have a $3 dinner when we make these at home, all ingredients combined. You definitely need to pick up a package of these because the possibilities are endless.
More ideas:
Sprinkle with cheese, broil, cut up for dippers with soup, or do the same and serve with pasta. You’d get a full family’s servings from one.
Make pizza.
Lightly butter them, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, and bake. Cut them up and serve them with vanilla ice cream.
These things are delicious. If you have a larger-than-two family they may be too pricey for you to serve as a meal but you can serve them as a quick, cheap side or learn to make them yourself. I promise you, you will not regret it because they are SO good!
