Hi. My name is Kristin Thompson and I am the founder and author of Making Cents Out of Life. I have been writing here and maintaining this site (with the help of my wonderful husband and webmaster Michael) since March 2009. Thank you for stopping by to learn a little more about us and our reason for being here.
My husband, Michael, and I have been married since 2004, and have faced many uphill battles that most young couples will never have to face, God willing. I was born with Spina bifida so a lot of these struggles were to be expected but most not so soon in life. We love big, and we fight big, but we always know at the end of the day that we are each other’s world. God has blessed us with a strong marriage and a strong love that has gotten us through the worst of times with His love and the love of our families. Luckily, my husband comes with a wonderful family that I can call my own. Anything worth having won’t be easy, and sometimes God’s answer to a prayer is “No”. We’ve come to understand that.
Our frugality was born out of necessity, and we have made more mistakes along the way than we’d like to admit. We’re human and we still make mistakes but we have learned a lot about what it truly takes to make it in this world, and how having a strong marriage and faith make all the difference in survival. We’ve learned true value, and that a family can live a successful, happy life spending much less money. Through trial and error, we’ve learned how to stretch a dollar till it pops without feeling “poor” or like we’re doing without much even in the worst of times. I decided that I wanted to use my time to help others, who may or may not find themselves in that situation, to learn the same lessons I learned perhaps without all the struggling and mistakes. My goal is to help my readers learn from my mistakes so they can live a happy, healthy life on less without sacrificing the quality of life they are used to. It’s much easier than it sounds, and if I can do it anybody can!
