Yay! It’s Sunday again, which means time for more coupons! So first, let me tell you that you’ll be looking for 3 inserts in tomorrow’s newspaper: 1 P&G, 1 Red Plum and 1 Smart Source. According to Sunday Coupon Preview there will be a P&G this week as well, although since there was one lsat week I find it strange to be getting another one so soon. I’m NOT gonna complain, just say thanks.
If y9u are new to buying a Sunday paper for the coupons, there are a few things you need to keep in mind:
- Coupons are regional. I could get a coupon for $1 off of 1 box of Rice Krispies, but you could get a coupon for $1.50 off of 2 boxes of Rice Krispies, for instance. Some areas may not even get that coupon at all. The Sunday Coupon Preview gives me a good idea of what is coming out so I can see if there’s something I need to order or find somewhere else. In my area of Alabama there’s usually a few coupons I don’t get that I really want, whether it’s a different value or just not in my paper at all.
- Sometimes it’s cheaper to buy the inserts somewhere else. If there is only 1 insert in the newspaper that week, and you typically only buy your newspaper for the coupons, it’s cheaper to just buy the inserts from a clipping service unless there’s a coupon coming out thatyou have to have during the first few days of the week. Coupons and Things usually charges no more than $1 for a full insert, and that is if there’s a really hot coupon in the insert. The cheapest newspaper I can get with great coupons is $1.50. The other is $2, so you can see what I’m talking about. Now, if the newspaper is coming out with a coupon that I need to buy a freebie that I will need on Sunday or Monday, I’ll go ahead and get ny newspapers taht day. Usually that doesn’t happen, so I can just order my inserts from Coupons and Things. I can buy however many whole inserts I need, and spend half what I’d spend on entire newspapers plus it is more environmentally friendly!
- Find ways to get your coupons that don’t cost as much as buying newspapers. Consider coupon trains, trading with people from forums, and also ask people at work and family who live in other places to send their extras to you! Trading coupons is a great way to get coupons you need while getting rid of the coupons you’ll never use.
- When you’re deciding how many papers to buy, think of how many items you’re wanting to stockpile as well as the number of people you shop for. I like to have enough items in my home that we don’t run out of anything but I also like to have enough items on hand for my parents and brother, depending on the item. With toiletries, I try to get enough for everyone. We aren’t particular about which brands we buy although I have gotten used to buying the better stuff for free since I’ve started using coupons. Before, I was buying store brand and now that I can “afford” to buy the better stuff I try to stockpile it when it is free. Figuring out how many people you are buying for will help you figure out how many newspapers/inserts you are going to need.
- Always, always, always go through your newspapers before you leave the store to make sure your inserts are in EVERY SINGLE PAPER. I’ve gotten burned more than once…more than I want to admit. At one gas station I used to go to, I honestly think the person who delivered them or worked there removed the inserts. They were missing too often to just be a coincidence. If you buy newspapers in a box and there’s no coupons in there, y ou can’t do anything about it really so take the time to buy them in a store whenever possible and go through them.
If you have any newspaper-buying questions, or anything else, leave a comment and I’ll do what I can to help answer. I buy a different amount each week of newspapers because that’s my only way to ge them. Luckily couponing isn’t real big around my hometown so there’s usually not a shortage of newspapers.
I need to go take a look at the lists to see what I will be buying in the morning, and to start planning some shopping trips to stock up on my freebies. Not to mention the organizing I need to do…I need a nap just thinking about it all!
All of the coupons can be previewed at Sunday Coupon Preview, so maybe you’ll have a better plan when you go to the store than I will!
