Kmart Clearance: Good Grocery Deals

The last 2 times we’ve gone to Kmart we have found some awesome deals!  Our Kmart doesn’t have a full grocery department, just some dry goods including cereal, snacks and milk, and a few more things.

I don’t know if all Kmart stores do this but ours marks down their grocery items when they near just pass their expiration or sell-by dates.  This is just for the shelf-stable, non-perishable items like cookies and crackers, and some juices.

Last week, we found multi-packs of Ritz sandwich crackers (the mini ones), multi-packs of Pringles Stix, and some other Quuaker snacks all marked down to $1 or less per box.  We also found some Chex 100-calorie packs.

This week, we found several boxes of Capri Sun 100% juices drinks and their brand of apple juice for $0.70-$0.75 for 8 and 10-pack boxes.

The snacks were marked down only because their sell-by date is May 29,  but even if they had reached that date or were a little past that date it would have been an awesome deal because these items don’t ruin.  The sell-by date is just the date that the items wil be at their most fresh, not the date that they will no longer be good.

I actually hadn’t planned either Kmart trip so unfortunately I did not have my coupons with me.    The deals were STILL too good to pass up but another 50% off would have been nice ya know?

Oh, and I would not buy the marked down refrigerated dairy items or meat simply because Kmart isn’t a grocery store and ‘Im honestly not sure how good the taste of their b rand of dairy items are anyway.  I’m obviously not brand loyal and typically don’t mind store brands but if I’m trying them for the first time it won’t be when their not at their best.

I am getting my coupons organized this week if it kills me, and starting tonight I’m going to begin my Virtual Coupon Class and let you in on my progress as I go along with you to organize mine!  It’s in horrible shape, so I’m starting over.  I would have saved a fortune on those already dirt cheap items if I’d had my coupons with me.  I will not complain because as I said they were already dirt cheap but I would have still saved another 50%!So here are the deals I would have gotten with coupons:

Chex 100-calorie packs (1o pouches per box)
$1/2  Chex Mix or Chex 100-Cal.  Snack Mix 4/18 SS
$.50/1 Chex Mix orb Chex 100-Cal Snack Mix printable https://www.bettycrocker.com/coupons-promotions/coupons/default
Final Cost: 2 for $1 or $.50 each depending on coupon used

Pringles Stix $1
$0.50/1  Pringles Stix 5/23 RP
Final Cost: $0.50 each

I don’t know what your store does with it’s near-expiration or sell-by grocery items but I definitely recommend checking them out once or twice a week.  Ours are kept on a rack near the back of the grocery department, which is just about 3 aisles of the store honestly.  Typically their food is way overpriced but these deals are quite awesome!  And you may want to ask if they will take coupons ont op of those prices.  They should but may not considering how cheap the items already are.  Also, watch how your items ring up!!  Typically in our store the marked down price isn’t programmed into the register so it always comes up wrong.  point it out to avoid having to wait in line again or hold up the rest f the line.  Let’s just say I’ve learned that fromn experience…more than once.

So anyway I’m sorry for the long winded post just to tell you about a couple of great clearance prices but the bottom line is to keep some coupons with you and to check places like Kmart periodically once you know they have clearance on a regular basis!

Kmart Freebie: Glade Tin Candles

 glade tin candles

I stopped by Kmart last night to get some Easter candy. Cadbury mini egggs were calling my name since I was too cheap to buy any before Easter…and yes, I’m still trying to watch what I eat- they are a rare treat.  Easter has the best candy of all of the holidays, don’t you think?  I used to get sick at the sight of Cadbury creme eggs, and my Daddy loved ‘em.  I wonder if he still does.  He’s diabetic so he can’t eat them anyway.  Those mini eggs are dangerous, so I have to put them in another container and hide them from myself.  Out of sight, out of mind.

OK, I veered a little off topic.  Sorry about that.  What I meant to tell you was that even if you have NO coupons in your possession, you can still run in Kmart and get 5 items for free possibly!

The Glade tin candles pictured above have $1.50′1 candles in them usually.  The candles aren’t sealed so you can get the coupon out IF YOU ARE GOING TO PURCHASE THE CANDLE and it will double to $3.  The candles are on sale this week for $3, so after the doubled coupon they will be free!

I got 5 of these in my local Kmart yesterday totally free.  They smell great and they make excellent gifts.  Of course mine will be gifts or given to my mama since we have Dahmer Kitty….but that’s another story for another day, if he doesn’t kill us and eat us first.  I’m almost kidding.  Almost.

I went yesterday to make sure they were truly doubling coupons because our local store hasn’t doubled coupons since November 2008, and carried none with me because for only 5 it was pointless to carry my entire binder.

Not every candle will have the coupon in it.  Some people take them out even though they are not buying the candle—the coupons are a part of the candle so taking them is stealing if you do not buy the candle so remember that.  We had to go through probably 10 to find 5 with coupons..check the ones near the back, those are usually the ones that are newly stocked so they were the ones that were more likely to have coupons for us, in all scents available!! :)

Good luck!

Kmart Doubles 4/5 through 4/10

Yay!  It appears as though Kmart is having Super Double Coupons this week, and although it’s still too early to call and make sure, even my store is participating!  Call your local store just to make sure, if you haven’t already.  I believe mine was closed for Easter yesterday so I didn’t go or call, although I can’t be sure.  I plan on calling as soon as mine opens!

I’ve compiled a list of blogs that have lists of prices for you from their local Mart stores.  I’ve fond that my prices are never quite the same as these so I’m going to go today (if my store is participating) and do a bit of my own pricing.  I’ll share those with you too when I get home, if my store is participating.

You do have to have a Shop Your Way rewards card to get the discount, and you are limited to 5 coupons per person per day.  I plan on getting my husband his own card so we can at least get 10 items.  If we lived further than 10 minutes to a Kmart there would be no point in going for only 10 coupons (especially 5), but for 5 or 10 freebies per day I’ll go!  I just need to determine which freebies I’m in need of the most.

If my husband and I both can check out, and we s tart tomorrow that is a total of 50 freebies we can get this week.  That’s not bad at all, even though it’s a far cry from what we got the last time they did this with no limit.  Oh well,I’m going to be grateful not greedy.  I really need to start making that my life’s mission, to be grateful for what  I have and not greedy and want more.

I think I need to stockpile pet treats and Glade items the most, if I have good enough coupons for them to be free or nearly free, but other than that it all depends on what I have and their prices. What are you going to go for?

So here’s that list of bloggers who have taken the time to go and get their prices to share with you.  Go and visit them to see what you should be on the lookout for; I’m going to go by Kmart later today and ask a few questions if my store is participating so I’ll let you know of any further restrictions!

OK I keep working on this list with interruptions from my sweet loving cat, and getting sidetracked working on other things so I’m going to post this for now.  I will add to the list later on, and if you want to be added in the meanntime just leave me a comment or shoot me an email at makingcentsoutoflife@gmail.com, and I’ll be happy to do so!  I’m going to run to Kmart later on myself so that I can write down a few prices and make sure MY store is participating before I get all giddy and happy :)   because I’ve been all excited before only to have my hopes and dreams of saving lots of cash be dashed by Kmart.  Welll, ok not THAT traumatic maybe but close :)

Edit:  Some are saying you cannot buy 5 identical items with coupons to double; I did, without any problems.  This is a complete YMMV situation (your mission may vary, your mileage may vary…however you want to say it but basicallyl each store is different sometimes).

Have a great day, guys, and thanks for your continued support and reading!

Kmart Clearance: Great Time for Stockpiling

My hubby and I took a walk through Kmart today to pick up a couple of things that we’d seen on clearance a couple of days ago, and noticed they had a pretty awesome clearance on a few toys for those of you who need them at some time.  They had a section of clearance toys that were already marked down, most of them at least 50% off, and they were an additional 50% off the lowest price.  I did not actually go through the toy section; these toys were in the middle aisles but what I saw were tons of Barbie, a few RC (remote control) toys, and a few action figures from wrestling and various movies.  There was too much to remember, I wish I’d had a notepad with me but I try hard not to carry a purse in stores.  Anyway, it made a LOT of expensive toys really, really inexpensive.  Some of the toys that were $40-50 were down to about $7, so it might be worth some of your time and money to pick up a couple to stockpile for your kids’ birthdays and Christmas maybe.

Another thing I wanted to mention about Kmart is to check out your store’s grocery section.  We have what’s called a “Big K”, which is a Kmart with a VERY limited grocery section.  We’re talking about 2 1/2 aisles with a refrigerator for milk, cheese and a couple of lunchables and balogna and some orange juice.  Nothing much, right?  But they always have a rack in the back of the grocery section with a few items that have been marked down because they’re nearing or have met their sell-by date.  It’s stuff like cereal and crackers, and other dry boxed items or chips.  Nothing big, but the savings are significant for items that are perfectly fine.  Today they had boxes of Tasters Choice coffee marked down from nearly $4 to $0.87.  I looked and there’s a coupon from a Smart Source insert and I can possibly get these free or for $0.37 depending on the coupon I have; I haven’t looked yet!  I also found boxes of graham crackers for $.87 marked down from $3 a few weeks ago; not free but they were Nabisco so it was a good sale for my area.

So anyway, I know that next week is supposedly the big “Double Coupon event” so while you’re there scouting out your deals take a little extra time to pay attention and look for the really cheap clearance that you might be able to get a good deal on NOW :)

Kmart Doubles Event with List Begins April 4

I’m so excited!  My friend Kristin e-mailed me to let me know that the next Kmart Super Doubles event was going on April 4-April 10.  Normally I wouldn’t care but my nearest store, Albertville, Alabama is participating!! Yay!  I found that out with this list provided from Common Sense with Money.  Short on Cents has the rest of the details about the promotion, like how many coupons you can use each day and the types.  My impression is that they are still going to be doubling coupons up to and including $2 but the limit is low.

I am also hearing that, and i don’t know this is a requirement but it’s free,  you must sign up for the Kmart Shop Your Way Rewards program.  The first time my card wss scanned, I got free lotion.  You also get back a percentage of your spending, so it has a lot of perks if you’re a Kmart shopper.  Look at it as cash back like online shopping which will lower your total purchase.   Just don’t forget your card…but if you do ask them to look it up with your phone number.

As I know more about the doubles I’ll post it, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to take a notebook in and scout out some prices so we can do some matching for freebies.  I’m super excited, because our store hasn’t participated in this since November 2008!!  Can you believe it?

Call your local store closer to time just to make sure that they are participating, because the information I have gotten from customer service has been wrong in the past and my store hasn’t participated.  I want to be completely sure before  I spend a lot of time getting ready for it, because I did that in the past and was so disappointed!

Kmart: General Mills Cereal $.50 each

My target price for a box of cereal is $1 or less, so I was thrilled when I saw this deal.  Right now you can get 4 boxes of General Mills cereal for $.50 each at Kmart!!  How sweet is that?

Here’s the deal:

Certain brands of General Mills cereal are on sale 4/$6, or $1.50 each.  You must buy 4 boxes or they will not ring up at this discount.  Considering that cereal at Walmart is $3-$4 per box, 4 for $6 is a steal.  It just gets better!

Use these coupons to get the hot $.50/1 price.  Print 2 per computer of each one to really stock up, especially if you’re like me and live in a small town where bargains are super hard to find.  After this deal, somebody may walk in my home and be surrounded by cereal.  I saw Chocolate Cheerios tonight at Walmart, I’m hoping there will be some at Kmart!!

$1/1 General Mills cereal

$1/1 Cheerios coupon

$1/1 Honey Nut Cheerios

Various $.55/1 and $1/2 coupons

Use any (4) $1 coupons and your price per box will be $.50 after the promotion and coupons.

Again please make sure you buy 4 boxes or the regular price of the cereal will be charged per box.

Final Cost: $2 for 4 boxes of cereal or $.50 per box!

Thanks, Bargain Briana!

I’ll be posting the Kmart Black Friday deals soon but since Kmart is open today I thought you might want to browse once the festivities were over.  One of my happiest memories is when I was little and my mom, Nannie and I used to go to Kmart after we at Thanksgiving lunch!  That was back in the day of the original Blue Light Specials; it was so much fun.  Isn’t it weird how you have all these memories of things that you really may not have enjoyed but seem so magical now?

Do you remember the Bluelight Specials at Kmart back in the day, when there was literally a blue light spinning in the store during certain times of the day and special sales would be announced? This was the way it was at Kmart when I was a kid, and then they sort of stopped and I forgot about them.

Kmart is bringing back their Bluelight Specials with a bang…and a sweepstakes! Starting today, November 12, you can enter the Kmart Bluelight Special Holiday Sweepstakes to win a $50 Kmart gift card every single day through December 23!

In addition to daily winners, everyone following @KmartDealsnNews on Twitter as of 12/23/2009 will be entered to win a $500 Kmart Shopping Spree!!

To enter to win:

  1. Follow @KmartDealsnNews on Twitter from your personal Twitter account!
  2. Issue a Tweet everyday using hashtag #KmartBLS

Kmart Bluelight Specials are going to run every weekend, Saturday and Sunday, on items from jewelery to electronics, to items for the home, at special Bluelight prices! There are over 40 Bluelight Specials throughout the weekend in-store and at Kmart.com ONLY on Saturday and Sunday.

I’m so exxcited about Kmart Bluelight Specials! I love things that remind me of that special time I spent with my Mom and my Nannie as a child, shopping, when times were much simpler and sweet. I love life now, of course, but there’s just something wonderful about those memories and times isn’t there?

What do you remember most about Bluelight Specials from the past? What items are you hoping are included with Bluelight Specials? We need a few things for our bathroom remodel so I’m hoping some of the home goods go on sale. I’m so glad we still have our Kmart, because some of the cities around us lost theirs. Now if I could only convince them to double coupons more often…

Good luck everyone!
