Piggly Wiggly PIg

My grocery store matches haven’t gotten done lately and I apologize for the 1,ooo time.  This time honestly wasn’t my fault, I just didn’t have any internet but that still doesn’t make it better.  If it does make you feel any better, I do the matches for myself almost as much as I do you guys because I want to know what is cheap at our local stores.  Nobody else blogs these stores that I’ve seen so I’m bummed that I haven’t done them lately for all of us!  So hopefully this week I will have internet and I won’t be on my deathbed, and by Thursday they will all be completed.  I just hope you’ll give me this chance to prove that I actually DO the matches.  I did consider quitting for a couple of weeks because nobody ever said they needed them, even when I asked, but I received a few e-mails since then from readers who use them so I fully intend to keep doing them.

Since tomorrow is the last day of the weekly sale for Piggly Wiggly I’m only listing the products I think are the best deals.  You can access your own ad by going to the Food Giant website and picking Piggly Wiggly or wichever store is in your area.  Double check the prices between your local ad and the prices I blog because there could be significant differences.  Food Giant stores are independently owned and therefore can set their own pricing, and although most of them are the same I would have for someone who shops with cash only to come up short a few bucks.

Call your store ahead of time to ask about their coupon policy.  Mine accepts them, but does not double or triple at any time.

These are just a few things I think you should pick up tomorrow if your Piggly Wiggly is your main store because these prices are really good.  Some are with and some without coupons, but each are the lowest prices I’ve seen these items at Piggly Wiggly.

Jack’s Pizza: $1.88- There was a coupon for these but it expired 3/31.  I’m sure there will be more.  These are normally $4.98 so you’re saving a ton anyway!  These are good if there’s just 2 of you or if you are needing just a quick kid-only meal or something.  These are my favorite frozen/fridge pizzas ever!  I’m not a fan of cardboard-tasting crust, but of course these are made by Kraft so they’re amazing!

Hamburger Helper $0.88 each
Use $.75/3 coupon from 4/11 SS
You’ll pay only $.63 each wyb 3

Various Bryan hot dogs, balogna $1.18
Use $1/2 Bryan products tear pad coupon (I found mine awhile back)
You’ll pay just $.68 for hot dogs and balogna, perfect for grilling or breakfast!

Cheez It’s: BOGO (First time I’ve ever seen a BOGO at Piggly Wiggly but I haven’t been tracking their prices long)
Use $2/2 Cheez It tearpad (I found mine at Piggly Wiggly the day the sale started but they were not signed so I didn’t know about the sale til I’d left :-( )
Use $.75/1 Cheez It Duos printable (use 2 if your store allows)
Use $.75/1 Cheez It Four Cheese (again use 2 if your store allows)

Final Cost:  I think these are $3.49 full price, they could be less.  Based on that, you’d pay $1.48 for 2 if you can find tearpad. Otherwise, you’ll pay $2 with 2 printables!  The Pepper Jack are soooooooo good!

Keebler Club Crackers BOGO $3.49-ish?
Use $1/2 printable
Use $2/2 any Keebler crackers tearpad coupon
Final price: As low as $1.49 for 2
Again, I’ve never seen a BOGO deal at Piggly Wiggly so this may be to take care of an overstock of the item or something new they are trying.  But forget the pre-packaged crackers and stock up on these to make your peanutbutter crackers or cheese and crackers.  It’s hard to beat that price, at least around here, on those crackers.

Idahoan pouch mashed potatoes 10/$10 ($1 each, you do not have to buy 10)
Use $.75/3 printable
Final Cost: $.75 each

There aren’t a whole lot of things that are great for the week, which isn’t a bad thing since I didn’t get to post these until a day before the sale ends.  But if you aren’t aware of the prices here you might want to go and see if you can go grab them.  I know that you can get them at Albertvill and Boaz but I’m not sure about other stores.  Again you can find that out, and check out the rest of the ad by going to FoodGiant.com!

Piggly Wiggly PIg

First of all, I’m sorry this is so late.  I got my ad late and then we have not had internet service for about a week long enough at a time to ge tthe ad up and finish the matches.  We finally got out the repair guys and they “think” they got it fixed but it’s been a 2 yr battle so we’ll see.

To keep a long story short, my sleep schedule as well as the rest of my life is a little odd ;)   so I am going to aim for finishing these ads by Thursday morning.  The latest should be Saturday morning by 10 AM but that will be rare.

You can go to the Food Giant website to find your Piggly Wiggly ad scan. Simply type in your zip code and find the name of your nearest Food Giant family store and you’ll be able to preview your own ad.  Tak ea look and make sure that your prices are close enough to the ones i post before you use this to do your shopping :)

Since this is so late, and I have not had time to do the matches online before now it’s going to be pretty short.  Normally I type up the entire ad so that you can save it for those of you who complete a price book.  Next week I’ll start doing this the way I’m going to from now on.

Meat/Produce/Bakery

10 lb. bag Cagle Fresh Chicken Leg Quarters $.38 lb.
Cut pork chops $1.38 lb.
Cataloupes 2/$3
Yellow Squash $1.78 lb.
5 lb. bag Russett potatoes 2/$3
Braeburn, Fuji, or Granny Smith Apples $0.98 lb.
Red Bell Peppers 2/$3

Since you can view the rest online this week I’m not going to type up the entire ad.  I want to add another store to our list, so in the interest of time I’m skipping that this week.

Finall Cost: $.34 each

Van Camp’s Pork ‘n Beans 2/$.88
Use $.25/1 Van camp’s 3/21 SS
Final Cost: $.15 cents each!!

This is the best I saw for the week.  I’m sure there was more on sale but since I’m getting this up so late I’m not going to list it all this late.

As I mentioned before, I plan on doing Foodland, Piggly Wiggly, Food World and Kroger as well as Publix highlights each week.  I’ll als o be posting a linky so that if you want to post your grocery matches on it for others in your area to find it you’re welcome to do so!  I loveit when Bloggers give  ne a place to put my link :)

Piggly Wiggly Deals to Return 3/17

Piggly Wiggly face

Well, I could just say “Oops, I Did It Again”, or just let it go without an apology but I can’t.  The Piggly Wiggly deals as well as the Foodland Deals will return 3/17!!!!  They were going to be posted yesterday but our internet connection hasn’t wanted to cooperate with my sleep schedule.  Meaning that when I was awake I had no internet connection so I couldn’t post the list OR search the database for the matches.  I did type up the New Hope ad in hopes that the connection would happen in time for me to make the matches, as it was the only paper ad I was in possession of at the time.  The others can be accessed here.  If you want a copy of the typed up New HOpe/Toney ad, you can e-mail me at makingcentsoutoflife (at) gmail (dot) com.  There are no coupon matches done but I do have the ad typed up so that I can reference the sale cycle and keep up with sales.

During the course of the last few days we have not had a vacation of any sort.  We had to do an at-home sleep study because my oxygen levels have been low when I sleep.  Well, the machine said they were dangerously low and if I had been in the hospital at the time they would have put me in ICU, said the nurse at my sleep doc’s office.  Then my CPAP literally burned up the same day my oxygen machine was brought out.  ot sure how that’s going to play out, so that could be interesting!

I have so many things to catch up on, and I really want to be around more for you.  Hopefully this oxygen machine at night will give me the energy I need during the daytime to function normally and to be able to live up to the expectations of you guys and mostly MYSELF :)

Please accept my apologies for no ad matches this week, and do know that they will be here next week as well as so many more deals!

Piggly Wiggly is a Food Giant family store. Food Giant family stores can be found in Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Each member of the Food Giant Family operates in an independent manner to provide every community with the most relevant and cost-effective weekly specials, so each store could have different sales. Food Giant stores operate under many names including Piggly Wiggly, Food Giant, Big Star, Mad Butcher Supermarket. You can view their ads online by visiting the Food Giant website!  Piggly Wiggly does accept manufacturer’s coupons; the acceptance of printable coupons is up to the store owner or management team as each store is independently owned and operated.

To maximize your food dollars at Piggly Wiggly stick to your store’s loss leaders in the weekly ad as well as the unadvertised sales and clearance items.  If you do this at each store within a reasonable distance to you, then you ought to be able to round out your grocery shopping and take care of most of what you need that week.  I’m going to be doing a lot more grocery shopping tutorials showing you how to maximize each dollar too it’s fullest potential so that you get everything at it’s rock bottom price.

Piggly Wiggly Ad Week 2/17 thru 2/23

Piggly Wiggly PIg

*I want to go ahead and apologize for the formatting issues I had on some of these!  I tried for awhile to change them around and it just didn’t work out but I am posting them now in the interest of time!  I really am sorry they are so late; if any one needs the typed up copy of the ad, I have it and you can contact me by e-mail at makingcentsoutoflife (at) gmail (dot) com!

Here are the Piggly Wiggly store matches for the week of 2/27 through 2/23.  I apologize for them being so late but Foodland took longer than expected.

You can join the Food Giant mailing list here.    I’ve not joined yet so I don’t know what you get.

There aren’t any tricks or secrets to saving at Piggly Wiggly; they dont have loyalty cards or double coupons but there are a couple of tips to follow when you shop at Piggly Wiggly:

1.  Shop the loss leaders but shop smart.  Their loss leaders are going to be found in the produce and meat departments for the best prices.  Keep a price book so you can keep up with the prices of their items over several weeks, typically 12 weeks, to get an idea of their lowest possible price of these items.   Stock up at that price.  Just because the item is on the back or front cover of their ad does not mean it’s a great price!  Check your other store ads to make sure it isn’t cheaper somewhere else.

2.  Look for items that have been marked down because they’re discontinued or nearing their sell-by date.  My husband and I have saved a fortunte buying stuff nearing it’s sell-by date because it can be frozen if you aren’t going to use it immediately. You can find meat, produce, dairy, and bakery items that are perfectly fine for this, and save up to 75%  buying these items versus new ones. The taste is the same, so wouldn’t it be ridiculous nt to?

3.  Look for coupons!  Smaller chain and independently owned stores are a treasure trove fo tearpad and blinkie coupons for othe items that you may or may not be getting that day.  Grab a couple for your next trip!  Dont take them alll, of course, and watch for expired ones!  If the coupon is attached to a product  is not for you to take unless you are buying the product- peeling a coupon off of a product and not purchasing the product is considered stealing!  The same goes for coupons that are around the necks of or inside a product.  Remember the Glade deal awhile back where the coupons were inside the candles?  Those candles are still supposed to have coupons in them, and I have never found one because coupons are removed from the containers.  OK, I am off my soap box now!

So it wasn’t an exceptionally great week; I am so sorry that things didn’t get finished earlier!  Next week should go more smoothly but keep in mind I’m really new at doing matches!  I”ve done them here and there but I’m learning what works and doesn’t, and each week is a learning experence!

I’m sorry these didn’t get posted til now.  I pray that next week is better and all ad matches get up in a timely manner so your shopping isn’t affected!  Hopefully you all still got some hot deals this week.

Piggly Wiggly is another straight-forward ad.    They don’t double coupons or have any “gimmic” sales that catalina deals or that kind of thing.  I like Piggly Wiggly for their meat prices and selection, plus they’re often a treasure trove of tearpad coupons and blinkies so keep your eye out when you’re there next.

To find out if there’s a Piggly Wiggly in your town, or one of it’s sister stores, check out their website FoodGiant.com.  You can also view the ad for your town to see how different the ads are.  If you want me to include your city’s ad when I do matches just comment or shoot me an e-mail at makingcentsoutoflife (at) gmail (dot) com.

I did notice “Power Buy” items throughout the ad, and they were pretty decent deals. Keep an eye out for those when you shop.  Also keep an eye out for marked down bread, meat, dairy and produce.  Items nearing their sell-by date often will be marked down, and they can easily be worked into your weekly meal plan or frozen fro later use.  Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean it’s bad!

I will try my best this upcoming week to get it done in a much more timely manner!  I want to include  a few more stores in my matches but I just haven’t felt up to it lately.  Maybe in a few days everything will be back to normal.  Thanks for your understanding, and I hope you all find great bargains!

Piggly Wiggly logo

One of the local stores I decided to begin to do ad matches for is Piggly Wiggly, one of the independently run stores within the Food Giant family. Each Food Giant store operates independently, and there are many stores within this family.  Make sure to take a look at your ad to see if it is the same as the one I am matching, as the products and prices may be quite different.

If you’d like for me to do matches for other stores in your area, send me an e-mail at makingcentsoutoflife *at* gmail *dot* com.  If I can get my hands on an ad I’ll be happy to oblige.

Piggly Wiggly stores take manufacturers coupons.  They do not double coupons.

There was more to the ad than I anticipated!

Shopping in a small town is a challenge when you want to save a lot of money because you can’t get double coupons, or BOGO sales or many of the other gimmicks offered by bigger chains that we love, but as you can see some of these prices aren’t bad with coupons.  If you don’t have a giant stash the printable coupons are a great place to start!

Tips:

1.  Be on the look out for clearance markdowns on near-expiration items and discontinued items.  You can still use coupons but you’ll save up to 75%!

2.  Ask the butcher when he does the markdowns on meat.  Do the same at the deli and produce department.   This can net you HUGE savings!

Michael and I used to shop at Southern Family Market in Guntersville before it closed; it was our favorite store and we were almost sick when it closed!  The sales there were awesome, but I’m not talking about the day-to-day sales.  They DID double coupons but the best things were deals on meat, cheese, and produce.  We used to get $4 bags of salad for under $1, and chicken breasts for less than $1.50 lb. which is outrageously good.  I highly recommend finding out when these items are marked down in your local store and plan your shopping trip accordingly.  If it is not your normal shopping day, change your routine to run errands that day to make up for using the gas, unless of course you live super close (and I’m jealous!).
